For 10 acre home ? Is being 2.5 miles off RT 1 and 95 a bad idea ?

Ashland is a beautiful area to live in. But it's amenities are lacking. If you like to shop and require more of a choice in doing so, then Goochland would be the better choice as you would have route 64,6,250 which all get you directly to main shopping areas in Henrico. Ashland on the other hand drops you off too far east of Henrico that you would need to jump onto 295 and drive to the end of it to get to the major amenities in Henrico.

Depends on amenities required. High end suburban amenities - Goochland yes. Basic amenities of a some restaurants and basic shopping / grocery - Ashland fine.
