Are there any good hiphop clubs or lounges to go to in downtown richmond, or surrounding areas? I'm 21 single male, and thinking about attending VCU, so just wanted to know?

I'd prefer "black people/Hiphop", thats what I relate to the most, but also "salsa/spanish/jazz", I wouldn't mind checkin that out as well. Can you expand upon the places or things that pertain to these two.

The African American nightlife in Richmond leaves a lot to be desired. Basically there is no decent night spot that is not full of tired, lame individuals. I attended undergrad in Richmond and I still reside here. There used to be so much more to offer but all of the decent spots end up being closed down or taken over by the less desirable folk (ghetto). I would stick to the college/alumni events, bars, or travel to DC to party. There are two decent bars that come to mind, Stool Pigeons and Popkins Tavern. Both are downtown and have a mixed crowd.

I know what you're talking about and it is pretty ridiculous. You might have to drive up north (D.C.) from what I hear.
