If the Glen Allen folks are still reading: my husband will be in Glen Allen on Monday for his job interview.

He'll have some of Sunday with nothing to do and I thought it would be fun to put together a short list of:

-- where to get good pizza in Glen Allen
-- the best bakery (he's an eater if you can't tell)
-- coziest/nicest book store (he's a reader)
a great kids park (knowing him he'd want to check it out on behalf of our boys).

Any suggestions are very appreciated!

Alley

My favorite pizza place is Nonna's, but my husband loves Ledo's in West Broad Village. Nonna's is more traditional and Ledo's is thin crust (rectangular) pizza. I'm not sure about the bakery. Does he want an independent book store or is Barnes & Noble good? There's a nice B&N near Short Pump Town Center. This area doesn't have the best parks (we moved back here last year from Cary, NC where there were amazing parks all over). I generally hit the playgrounds at the elementary schools, but Crump Park (about 10 minutes from Innsbrook) is a treat for my kids.

There are buys to be had! (even in Glen Allen)

Yes Alicia, this is a challenge from a far. I suggest (and this sounds self serving) you get hooked up with a strong REALTOR who can work with you and assist you in your serach. For example, I set up a webpage for my clients that match their criteria so that you constantly know the inventory that is available for you -- just a suggestion.

Yes, I thought of that one after I posted. I've never been but heard it's nice. I tried to put links up, but Henrico's Parks and Rec. website isn't so helpful.

Uh, oh!! No bakeries??? This may be the end of job search in Glen Allen for my bakery-aholic husband!!

Kidding!

Thanks everyone, you've made me feel a lot better!

While I know it isn't exactly a bakery, there is Panera & Ukrop's (supermarket) has some decent bakery goods. Don't remember about Whole foods as to what they sell in baked goods.

Two Sweet is a cupcake boutique near Short Pump Town Center... best cupcake I've ever had

Tons of bakeries closer into town, in Carytown, etc. Same goes for independent book stores. Black Swan, Chop Suey, Narnia Children's Books, and Fountain Bookstore are a few that come to mind.

There are lots of areas surrounding Short Pump within a half hour commute where $250 will buy you a fairly nice house. One possibility would be in Chesterfield County. Route 288 is a major road connecting Chesterfield to the west end of Henrico County and it is toll free. There are numerous other possibilities and your best bet is to contact a local Realtor.
