Not trying to start a UofR v. VCU competition. They don't compare.

The OP is interested in UofRichmond. The fact that they are looking there and he/she states they know it is expensive shows they've already screened schools. He/she asked about shopping, dining, walking/neighborhood related to UofR.

To the OP: you may also want to look at collegeconfidential.com and fill in Richmond. There's some interesting reviews on there, too. Good luck; it's a lot of work finding the right college!

However, for shopping, dining and whatever, VCU offers more of an experience, as UofR is in the suburbs and there's not much around. You MUST have a car.

good comments from everyone. i just got back from touring UR and it is a very good school. very good in academics. very good in campus facilities. beautiful campus, nice part of richmond.

also, the international education/study abroad there is one of the best in the world.

if there is a "negative" it is as some one mentioned, a bit "talbot-ey" in its students.

Oh, yes, W&L is definitely preppy. (Maybe you and I are probably on the same wave length .) I have a good friend whose son graduated last year and he's a walking/talking Vineyard Vines, JCrew ad! Several of my daughter's prep school friends went to UofR and W&L and they all fit that syle. Of course, there are exceptions at every school. All of those kids are also involved in sorority/fraternity life, which is big at both schools but huge at W&L.

Also, I don't know if you've visited Richmond yet, but the buildings and grounds are absolutely gorgeous! Have fun.

Ahh, we're definitely swimming in the same pool! One of my daughter's good friends from high school is at Rhodes and he absolutely loves it! Don't know anything about Rollins or Stetson but a family friend has a daughter at Eckerd. That student has some learning difficulties and Eckerd has been fabulous at working out accomodations for her. They are extremely happy with it.

It sounds like you're also focusing on southern schools, as did we. Are you also looking at Wofford? That was my daughter's second choice. Having gone to a small boarding school, she decided to go to a big SEC school instead but loved Wofford the best of all the small schools.

Ahh, we had so much fun college shopping but I'm also glad the stress is over!

Where did your daughter end up? Mine isn't interested in a big SEC school and we are HUGE Alabama fans- imagine that!! she actually went down on Saturday night and I said you are sure that you don't want to go there and she said I don't want to be around a buch of drunk stupid people- of course there won't be any at any other schools!!! anyway- My brother went to Wofford and I went to Converse- haven't talked about wofford alot but know it is such a great school- any other suggestions of ones you all really liked!!
