I like metro a lot, especially their sushi. they have a sushi hour between 5:30-6:30 everyday where a lot of sushi is half off. I recommend the dragon roll, was my favorite by far!

Whenever the City Market Building is open(never when I'm downtown), I try Queso. They have great tacos and other SW/Mexican entrees. Metro is an awesome place for a dress up night, I love their Miso soup, salads,
fusion dishes and creme brulee. The Governor loves this place btw. Nawab Indian has a great lunch buffet.
Alejandro has a very good Mexican menu. Thai Continental on the Market has good Thai food and they have specials at lunch. If you like a little Greek food, try Pauls on Franklin Rd. downtown. It is an unpretentious little place with mostly American food but with a few Greek specialties like baklava, salads, pasta. My favorite place Zorba left the Market Building but he is now out on Shenandoah at 419. These are just a few of the tons of restaurants downtown.

I favor Taaza over Nawab. The food is consistent and definitely, authentic. Nawab seems "watered down" in taste. Not very spicy. There was a Nawab in VA Beach that was also, meh.

Absolutely right. Since taaza opened I have stopped going to nawab. Taaza has a lot more variety with a blend of north & south indian foods whereas nawab is monotonous & bland in comparison. Taaza's weekend buffets have the most variety.

I love Hotel Roanoke's Sunday brunch in Regency room. You might need reservations. They were not as expensive ($24) as I had expected. Its a very good place to celebrate special occasions like birthdays or anniversaries.

Blue 5 is my favorite restaurant in all of Roanoke, not just downtown. Delicious food, great beer list, and outstanding free live music most nights of the week.

Alejandros and Blue 5 at night (I don't work downtown so can't speak to the lunch options). Fork in the City on open mic nights. Firefly Fare inside the Market Building.
