Like in your opinion do you think people in Roanoke are friendly,non-friendly,easy to talk to,hard to strike up a conversation, etc.? I say here compared to where I am from in Cali they are not as laid back here and not as chill here, seem some here are very stuck up and rude to others, but at the same time met some nice folks in the SE area, anyways whats your thoughts u think people here mean or nice?

I've found people here to be quite friendly! For reference I'm from DC (where also people were super-friendly but that was home for me so YMMV) and also lived in the Finger Lakes (where people were very provincial and not interested in newcomers at all).

As my username indicates, I'm from Charlottesville. I've only been in Roanoke for a short time, but the people here seem to be more interested in taking the time to get to know you/engage in small talk vs. back home. People in Charlottesville are great, it just seems they're less willing to slow down and listen/converse like those here are.

People are very friendly and considerate here. In stores, it's not unusual to great someone in a store and have them greet you back. I actually miss people here when I travel to other parts of the country. Other places have people so caught up in the rat race they don't pay attention to who they're with. Most have their smartphones in their faces. Quite sad.

It's nice to be in a place where people are valued over gadgets, and hard work is still the name of the game.

I've had more impromptu conversations here than I did home (NYC metro area)...my wife hates when I talk to people, says its embarrassing, but I like hearing peoples stories/opinions.

Overall people are friendly here, but like people anywhere you will run into all types.

Overall they are friendly. Its easy to start a conversation when waiting in line at the grocery store or movie ticket lines.

My experience essentially mirrors CVille2RoanokeWahoo's, with the exception that I'm from Northern Virginia. I moved here because I wanted to live in Roanoke. I have found Roanokers to be exceedingly friendly and very down-to-earth overall. I have family in the 510 and have spent a little time there, but not enough to discern the overall vibe of the area nor friendliness of its people. I lived in Southern California for a short time and it was definitely a much different feeling there than on the East Coast - definitely very laid-back.

People are the same in most places.. groups of clicks, friendly or not,.too many older people here..people think they have money and don't,
I like down to earth people...I did try to keep up with the joneses in D.C.!
If I was still working, I probably would not live here. Not too many interesting jobs

VERY friendly & polite. Not at all rude. Easy to strike up a conversation. You wont feel like a stranger. Seems like everyone knows everybody else as this is a close-knit, laidback town. You might run into the same person 2-3 times in a day.

I used to occasionally travel to Roanoke for work, and I basically thought folks there were cool and hospitable.

Roanoke is a really beautiful part of the country, but damn, I'd have a hard time with the winters.
