"The purpose of the Plans is to facilitate development of a regional multimodal transportation network in the Roanoke Valley that accommodates and encourages walking and public transit as alternative ways to get from one place to another. The study area covers the cities of Roanoke and Salem, the Town of Vinton, and the urbanized portions of Bedford, Botetourt, Montgomery and Roanoke Counties."

It is great people are actually thinking of the future as it concerns transportation issues in this area. Roanoke is compact enough it can achieve alternative forms of getting around without a car, unlike most sprawling U.S. cities. Since our state government has all but ignored transportation issues here in Roanoke, at least, it is up to the people to dream.
I believe there are still strretcar tracks in Roanoke , buried umder asphalt. If the streets get so grid locked in 10 years at least there are some cheaper alternatives for streetcars. I have noticed more bicylists, the problem is many are not obeying traffic laws, especially on main streets and at night. We need more street lights, especially in Roanoke County to see these cyclists.

We can eventually pull Roanoke County into the 21st Century even if it is kicking and screaming! After attending some of their supervisors meetings I was amazed of their disdain of commercial development. I can't wait until they all get the Al BEDROSIAN
FEVER.
