Been pretty stuck on the Tri Cities are in NE Tn for a while now but just curious why should I consider Roanoke over Tri Cities? Major facts would be Education,Economy,Taxes,Rental prices for 3/4 bedroom place and Crime.

Mountains.

Outside of that, tell us more about yourself, your line of work, what you are looking for in a relocation, etc.

I am looking for

Good Economy (mostly medical and transportation fields)
Snow fall (more the better!)
Socially Conservative (not religious but traditionalists)
Education( got 1 going into 2nd grade and 1 going into Kindergarten who is ADHD and will need a really good teacher/school who is understanding)
Rental prices (600-800 for a 3/4 bedroom place)
Crime( no drug filled areas, no ghettos)

I took a quiz and it gave my Roanoke and Lynchburg in Virginia. 1 town in Ky and the Tri Cities in Tn.

I would go with Roanoke, will have more going on. There will be crime and drugs in every city.

Rent is probably cheaper in tri-cities though.

Lots ofmedical stuff around here... hospitals and branch offices everywhere

eh... sometimes, but sometimes not so much

it seems like it would be socially conservative, but there's a pretty strong mix here, in my opinion

Roanoke is not well known for their stellar public schools. However, we have one in elementary and one in high school, and so far we really don't have any complaints. However, we have friends who have some special-needs kids, and I believe they have to fight tooth and nail with the public schools for every bit of concession they get.

it won't be a palace, but there are things in that price range in decent areas

I'm originally from about 45 minutes west of NYC, so "ghetto" and "crime" here are sort of laughable in comparison. But there are some sections... every city probably has them. If a city is large enough to have opportunities, it's large enough to have issues too.

Greetings, I was just looking over this website to make sure I could log in.

I decied to look at VA.
I'm from Rke, but have family not far from St. Paul, VA.

I think you could take j1n's post to the bank.

I'd actually rather go with the Bristol, VA area of the Tri-cities.
Depending upon your job and stuff it may be best to be in TN (income tax set-up is differnt)

Fairly cozy urban environment. Bristol has a great hospital.
I-81 access (Rke does too).
More snow.
Abinginton is nice.
I think the area is getting more folk to retire there.
Rain and vegitation is impressive. So farming is good.
AT close by and Smokies Nat Park.
You could travel to a lot of great locations in a day.
