It's feasible, but only if you like spending an hour or more on the road one way. If you work an 8-9 hour day, you're looking at a good 11-12 hours of your day being chewed up between work and travel. And in the winter, expect to find a hotel some nights.
I know someone that did this for a number of years - lived in Buffalo area (Depew) and worked in Rochester area (Henrietta). Home and work were very near expressway entrances therefore most of the commute time was on the Rt 90/Thruway and it only took about an hour (since there was not much non-Thruway travel). Some days could be bad regarding weather/snow, but other than weather concerns, yoeu can generally plan that you'll move fast without traffic issues on Thruway commute.
Lots of people in metro areas commute an hour or more to work ...
I lived in Henrietta and went to buffalo a lot. Depending how close to thruway you are on both ends, you can do it in 50 minutes sometimes, doing maybe 75 the whole way if possible.
My husband lives in Rochester, and works between Buffalo and Ithaca. It is annoying sometimes, but doable - especially dependent on where in the Buffalo area he is going. Depew, fine. Closer two Niagara Falls? Bleh.
It is very miserable to commute in a winter like this one not to mentioned dangerous. In the summer, it shouldn't take you more than 1 hour.
