The Strong's official expansion has kicked off with a few more details. The parking garage is being started now. Next year the new wing of the museum will be started to be finished in 2020. The World Video Game Hall of Fame will be in it with interesting new exhibits such as a walk augmented reality video game experience. A woman in video games exhibit and a ropes cours.

I can't wait to hear about the new Hotel and retail buildings timelines for the "Neighborhood of Play". Obviously this is nowhere on the scale of Disney World, but conceptually this is pretty much the same model of attractions, hotel and retail/entertainment/residential in the neighborhood. Very few cities in the world are going to have anything like this.

Quote:
As the ultimate destination for all things play, The Strong must expand our facility and our services to meet a growing demand and our community’s growing needs. The expansion will house new, interactive exhibits and one-of-a-kind guest experiences that will generate more than $130 million in annual economic impact for the City of Rochester. Every aspect of our expansion will ensure that guests connect with the history and power of play and with each other.

Neighborhood of Play
The Strong’s museum expansion is the driving force behind the Neighborhood of Play—a new, vibrant, walkable neighborhood, revitalizing the downtown area surrounding The Strong. Market research shows that this expansion will attract up to 400,000 new guests each year, sharing the transformative power of play with a broader audience. The museum piece of this project is a new 1,000-car parking garage and a 100,000-square-foot expansion, which will further extend our reach beyond New York, drawing millions of people to play and learn at The Strong.

The neighborhood will include:

A national, family-friendly hotel operated by Indus Hospitality Group;
Market-rent housing and a mix of retail businesses operated by Konar Properties;
A new, state-of-the art, 100,000-square-foot museum expansion that will house new exhibits including The Strong’s World Video Game Hall of Fame;
And a playfully themed parking garage with ample covered spaces for visitors.

Welcome Atrium and Admissions Area
The new “front door” of the museum will include improved guest amenities and admissions services, a new restaurant café, and an expanded museum gift shop.

Immersive Video Game Experience Gallery

Guests will work their way through a combination of multimedia storytelling, innovative game mechanics, and augmented reality that will transform the way they think about play.

World Video Game Hall of Fame Gallery
A new interactive home for The Strong’s World Video Game Hall of Fame will examine the impact of video games on our cultural history and highlight the iconic games and trailblazing innovators who have forever changed how we play, learn, and communicate.
