There's an article in today's D&C that's outlining how high schoolers are getting more involved in societal issues. The article is accompanied by a picture of a number of teens marching down the middle of a city street. Since when is blocking traffic from freely flowing, possibly blocking people from getting to their jobs, or even possibly blocking an emergency vehicle, "socially responsible"???

To bad these kids have been indoctrinated with someone else's cause and agenda. These kids have no idea how to think and problem solve. How will things improve without diversity of ideas?
Maybe they should have gone to West Ridge Plaza over the weekend, where one person was shot and another was doused with gasoline and there were no police, despite this happening every Sunday night.

Interesting idea, but I think that the "kids" would have thought it was a good idea to stand in the middle of Ridge Road, and block traffic.........."for the cause", assuming they had an idea of what it was (this week).
Decline of Christianity, or the result of "bad parenting"?
I'd say both, but there is all kinds of data about the absence of fathers and how it correlates with crime data. Given that we know about this problem, I'm amazed it's not addressed.

You must not be watching the news. RCSD has been a failure not holding students and staff responsible for their actions, they now think this behavior is acceptable. I'd also like to know, how does the school have time to plan a gathering in a plaza on a sunday night with gas cans, or plan activities to show their ignorance of Frederick Douglass (and real educated people who own property, which is a shame on RCSD), or even have kids throw rocks during sports games, but they can't plan activities to get these students and staff engaged in healthy activities and learning not to get involved with criminals. I'm telling you this RCSD situation just gets worse and worse as the weeks go on. Glad I don't live in Rochester or pay RCSD taxes. There's a mess that cannot be cleaned up as is.

In short, the burden of teaching the children "socially acceptable behavior" begins at home....or it SHOULD!! However, if you see the the unfortunate make up of far too many of Rochester's parents, or other area's "city neighborhoods", for that matter, you'll see that the parents didn't learn how to behave, either. Therefore, what can you expect from their offspring??
Sadly, school has become a "parental substitute", something it wasn't designed to be. School was originally intended to be a place to learn reading, writing, history, science, and math. Today, it's morphed into a "daycare center".
