Anchor Bar Likely Coming to Rochester (http://rochesterhomepage.net/content/fulltext/?cid=107302 - broken link)

This should make for a good time! Looks like it will be near the Old Toad by the corner of East ave and Alexander.

Overrated. Jeremiah's wings are better.

Jeremiah's are good, yes, just not sure about the clientele, at times (I have stories).

I've heard Duff's in Buffalo are really good, as well as a few other joints up that way.

Personally, I like to do my wings, at home, marinade them first, then throw 'em on the grille. Maybe baste them afterwords depending upon local taste.

+1 I have been to Jeremiah's on a number of occasions, very good wings. This kind of competition can only be good for us!

Anyone know why bars seem to fail at such a high rate in ROC?? I remember about 8-10 years ago Rochester was hoppin with a ton of fun bars to go to up and down Monroe... Back then the East End wasn't the proclaimed entertainment district is is now.

And High Falls was a great place to hang out also.. Now eveything down there is closed!!

I just found out that the old Paradise Alley on Goodman/Monroe was turned into an asian restaurant.. But that may have closed also?

Granted I was in my early 20's back then, but it seems that kids getting out of college these days don't have the fun nightlife we had a few years ago. On Monroe I think Oxfords, ACME, JJ Flynns are all still open.. But what else is down there? ( I understand there may be a few more bars along Monroe too, but those are what came to mind).

I'm considering throwing my hat in the ring and starting something along Monroe, but am hesitant because of all that have closed. Is there still a descent market for a fun sports bar, if it can be a safe place and keep the trouble out? Or is Monroe Ave a shell of it's former self?

Monroe ave is the same as it was years ago, just some shifting. New bars have opened in the place of old ones. This isn't a Rochester thing, it happens in every city. Many bars only have a shelf life of a few years before they get old and stale with people getting sick of them. Its the staple bars that stay in business.
