I know about rural living. However, over the past few years, Dollar General has investing much by opening stores in rural areas? I know a few locations that do not have any other stores around them for at least 5 or six miles.
It's the same way here. There is one about 6 miles south of town on a busy 5 lane road and another one planned to be built east of town. There is at least one in a neighboring county in the country on a fairly busy 4 lane highway. I wondered why they didn't choose to build any in the nearby little towns of Glencoe and Ripley, that still don't have a chain dollar store.

I haven't heard of that store, so looked it up. The nearest is 69 miles away, and the ones under 100 miles away are all in small rural towns in the "middle of nowhere."
DG is the modern general store. There are literally dozens of failed little community stores around me, 95% of which failed long before DG came on the scene. Poor and expensive supply lines, crappy business hours and work ethics, insular attitudes, all killed them off.
DG comes in, spends a minimum on the building, but stocks it fully and has reasonable business hours and low pricing. It fits the market segment nearly perfectly and thrives. There are three of them near me, each about seven miles away in different directions. I saw how fast they were growing and bought stock early on.
There are several DG stores in the very rural areas of our county, literally the "middle of nowhere". When I was helping with harvesting at one of the local farms several summers ago, I used to stop in the DG afterward for a cold drink, because there was nothing else close, not even a gas station. The Amish liked to go in there, without shoes of course. "No shirt, no shoes..." didn't really apply to the locals, being mostly Amish.

Ten miles from "official" home. 20 miles from my summer home.
I have TWO within 10 miles from my home in Arizona.
The question really should be..."do you shop there??".
I do....but then my three homes cost me around 300,000.
There is a DG one town away from me. In between two larger towns that have big grocery stores. Went in the other day, what a mess. Plus someone without a mask who appeared to be an employee or vendor.

I don't know how small, but I have seen them in "cities" of 800 people.
