ZOLLIKOFEN, Switzerland — When Christian Oesch was a boy on his family’s hog farm, cellphones were a thing of the future. Now, Mr. Oesch tends a herd of dairy cattle and carries a smartphone wherever he goes. Occasionally he gets an SMS from one of his cows.

I'm glad there are people that committed to improving genetics, my own cows have benefited, I'm sure (though many degrees removed). But, I could never be like that.

Hey! I need that for one of my goats!

I want to get her bred for the first time this fall/winter, but I'm not catching her in heat at all.

I have no problem telling with her mother, but Zoey is being much more modest about it all.

I wonder if they would like to do a similar study with goats?

LOL

Well, a bull would but the farmer who uses AI to inseminate his cows might need a little help.

And, while I don't know a lot about cows, I do know that it's not always easy to catch a goat at just the right time, and unless you run your buck (or bull) with the girls all the time, you have to rely on your own abilities to tell who's "ready."
