Due to the amount of water used to control the dirt they spread throughout Old Sacramento.

It just seems to me that skipping the dirt would make much more sense than cancelling the whole event.

Can't use a pump from the 30,000 cubic ft/ sec known as the Sacramento River?

Sure it's 100,000 cubic ft of water, but some Golf Courses use 140,000 cubic feet a DAY.

What a shame. Back in the day our oldest granddaughters absolutely loved Gold Rush Days and looked forward to us taking them every year as well as to the Pacific Rim celebration. It's sad to think that so many children will be deprived of the event(s).

It makes no sense. The dirt/water thing is probably an excuse for deeper problems we won't hear about. The dirt is a gimmick that Gold Rush Days could easily do without--it's the biggest expense, the biggest hassle and the biggest source of complaints.

I agree. I think they are just using that as an excuse for other issues (Probably $ issues). They could just do away with the dirt and still do the event if it was just a dirt/water issue. Too bad.

Almost every golf course I know of uses reclaimed waste water.

Went last year with family from So Cal and we had a great time. It's a shame considering the water waste going on in Sacramento communities every day. And look at what happened in L.A. today! Who going to take the blame for that?

Probably George Bush. He seems to get blamed for everything anyway. What's one more?
