Hello everyone! I am a physical therapy student that will be going out on an 8 week clinical next summer. Although the summer is far away, I have to submit my top choices for clinical location soon. One of the sites available that I was considering is in Chico. I am willing to drive up to 35 minutes from where I live to the site. Can anyone give thoughts on areas within that radius to look at? My biggest priority is safety. Any apartment complexes or safe neighborhoods known to have rentals will be greatly appreciated.

My other concern is that I went to undergrad in CA and all I have ever heard about is that Chico is a party school. So my concern is finding somewhere to live where I won't be surrounded by people partying till late at night. So, if there are any "boring" married with kids areas, I'm in!

I'd move back to Chico is a heartbeat.

I lived in Chico for three years yeah students like to party during halloween, labor day etc. It's nothing that students at other colleges are not doing.

It's not the students you have to worry about, but the local meth heads. I'd look for an apartment east of Hwy 99 if you want quite.

The town's party rep is severly over blown

Good to know! Have you heard of any specific apartment complexes with a good reputation? I have had difficulty finding consistent reviews of places online.

Take reviews, any reviews with a grain of dirt. people love to get bent up up and complain, but that's another topic all together. I rented from Everett Properties when I lived there and never had an issue, but I also lived close to campus.

Chico's party reputation has dwindled pretty significantly in the past 10-15 years. Students perpetually move here thinking it's just as rowdy as it was in the 80's and 90's but they quickly learn that the college community doesn't function that way anymore. There are still house parties, and sometimes there will be a rash of outbursts (such as, lately there have been some dumb kids burning couches causing issues). However, college students are confined to a relatively small area of town. Generally, all of the partiers live in the South Campus neighborhood.

There are plenty of places to live in Chico that don't see any of that kind of activity. Some apartment complexes that tend to be mellow and occupied by more mature young adults would be Amanda Place or Forest Avenue apartments (they're right next to each other). Sterling Oaks apartment is considered a pretty upscale complex, but the rents are pretty high. ($900+ for a one bedroom/one bath). There are some complexes that have just been built on the north side of town, but they're fairly pricey as well.

If you want to browse some Chico property management sites, here's a two of the biggest companies:

The Hignell Company

Sheraton Real Estate Management

Whatever you do, steer clear of Robb Fairchild, he's a pretty unethical property owner/manager in Chico who figures himself a big shot.
