What about Rocklin? (Sacramento, Roseville, Folsom: new home, buying, good schools)

Anyone want to cheerlead for Rocklin? Lots of posts discuss Folsom, Granite Bay, EDH... but not much chatter on Rocklin.

My family and I might relocate to Sac and we've been looking at the swath of communities of El Dorado Hills, Folsom, Granite Bay, and Rocklin. Those areas have "good" schools so we're concentrating our home buying search in those areas.

I like how there appears to be much potential for growth in Folsom with the south-of-50 development plan and the new mall being built on Bidwell. I also like the new little Italian themed mall in EDH. Those things seem to be pluses for rising property values in the next 5 to 10 years.

Roseville/Rocklin/Granite Bay have the Roseville Galleria as a focal shopping area. I don't know much else.

I rented in Rocklin for about half-a-year while I was working for the Air Force. I felt totally comfortable there (important since I moved across the country) and found every convienience I needed, also not as congested as Roseville. The thing with Rocklin is it seems to have a lot of the newer planned communities -- biggest complaint might be that it lacks character. I thought the location was great (close to the foothills and Sacramento and could easily take off toward Marysville/Lincoln/Wheatland). If I were to buy a home, me personally, well I might look toward an area with more character I guess...older homes or maybe up in the foothills. Nothing bad to say about it though.

It is actually a lot like Folsom in terms of appearance and convenience. Good schools and nice atmostphere and a little bit hilly in topography. But the commute to downtown, sit on Rt 65 and I-80 during rush hour and if it doesn't bother you, it is a great choice.

Does anyone have an opinion on if there is actually any difference between living in West Roseville or Rocklin?

Well, on my last two trips out there I managed to drive around both Rocklin ane West Roseville areas so I could get a good feel for where to live when we move this spring. I found that Rocklin appears to have a premium attached to the equivalent home in West Roseville. There appear to be more choices as far as grocery stores in any given radius in Rocklin, vice the western reaches of Roseville. I could live in either city in a new home, so long as it doesn't take two years to build out the street we intend to purchase a home on.

I couldn't disagree with you more regarding Rocklin being anything like Folsom. Folsom is quaint with a historic downtown and has a fanastic lake. What does Rocklin have exactly? Afew churches and strip malls with plenty of cookie-cutter characterless tract homes. Honestly, to compare the two like that just winds me up - they are completely different!! One wonders if you have ever even been to Folsom. Folsom has everything you could possibly want IMHO.
