Report was released today that says CA is one of 32 states with no requirement to prove your eligibility to vote. Come on people, it's NOT that hard to get an ID!!

IMO, this is just sickening. I don't care how old or indigent you are. You have an obligation to prove who you say you are!

Then ask yourself how people still consider this a topic of debate. Then Bang your head against the wall. Then ponder how such apparent loopholes have been left open so long and there isn't a federal mandate to close them.

Because some feel the integrity of an election by avoiding voter fraud is important.

If I need an ID for one civil right it shouldn't be an issue to require an ID for another civil right.

When I say it is a burden to have two forms of ID, pass a test, pass a background check, complete a safe handling demonstration, travel to the purchasing location twice and wait ten days to buy a gun is an infringement and then some claim those are reasonable restrictions while then asking for a person to show a free ID to vote is some how a burden you are a hypocrit.

yeah, all this Voter ID/voter fraud is primarily to make it harder for poorer folks and nonwhite folks to vote. Voter fraud is an incredibly tiny problem, while denying poor and nonwhite people the right to vote is an enormous problem that folks still mad about passing of the Civil Rights Act are trying to roll back. California is smarter than that, and better than that.

Complaining that it's harder to buy a gun than to vote is missing the point--if you think it's too hard to buy a gun, work to ease those restrictions (such as by voting) rather than trying to create more restrictions on other people's rights.

Wouldn't these people be more likely than others to be receiving some type of aid? That required ID to sign up for?

The last time I checked, DMV still had their low-income option for an ID card, so people wouldn't be denied their ability to receive aid.

I'm not sure at this point if my sister voted in the recent election or not. She received paperwork (at my address) from a Democrat-backed organization that was attempting to get all women registered (as single women are more likely to vote Democrat.) They helpfully pointed out that since California doesn't require ID to register, they'd done all the paperwork for her to get her registered here (as a Democrat) in time for the primary.

My sister died in 2014. In Arizona. As a registered Republican.

What was the name of the Democrat-backed organization?
