Are you suggesting Sac more difficult to navigate that Houston, one of the largest metros in the entire country with an established problem with gridlock traffic? These sort of cities make no sense at all; Boston, Houston, etc. What we don't know are the extent all of the other factors: average labor costs, fees and taxes (income and business entity), average costs of transporting inventory, etc. There are a ton of other factors that I am sure Amazon is considering. But, based solely upon accessibility to an airport, cost of setting up a major headquarters, the smaller and mid/metros would have the clear edge. It's going to be cheaper to build or rent a space in Sac than it is in a dense, major metropolitan area and it's going to be far easier to move inventory in these cities (Denver, Sac, etc) than somewhere like Dallas or Los Angeles.

It's very interesting how the New York Times narrowed down the "ideal location" to Denver, Colorado. That actually makes some sense.

But this is just a newspaper playing around with possibilities. It has little to do with what is actually being discussed (or will be) at Amazon itself.

I think it's way to soon to rule anything in or out. One things for certain: Amazon will figure out what works best for Amazon.

In some ways, if I lived in the city eventually picked by Amazon, I might keep my fingers crossed that the deal fell through. Yes, I know this will bring lots of jobs to whichever city is chosen, but it will also probably bring a surge in housing prices, traffic, schools, etc. So, it won't be all wine and roses for the people who already live there.

Enter a zip code to see if the city has a fortune 500 company. I tried several Sacramento zip codes. Nothing came up. I don't blame them for not wanting to come to this armpit of a city.

The Railyards development is zoned for up to 5,000,000 square feet of commercial space that could accommodate Amazon's criteria for a second headquarters.

Logistically, Sacramento is way too close to Seattle. They are practically a good day's drive down the I-5 from each other. That, in itself, means Sacramento isn't on Amazon's list.

Why? If Amazon is looking for a geographic distribution point which is not on the west coast, I think that criteria would be listed and would eliminate speculation immediately. Even Spokane is making a pitch, so maybe they are just looking for a less expensive location than Seattle to expand.

While it would be a lovely dream it will never happen.

Amazon will choose Chicago or somewhere on the East Coast. Perhaps Boston or Atlanta?

I think Houston was a strong contender pre-Harvey but since that hurricane I'm seeing an exodus from that city

I think Denver is still the likely city.
