Thanks for any advice.

Husband on a Cpap machine at night and there are so many forest fires, ongoing, in California. Want to filter the air mainly but there are some hot days here, getting up to the 90's where it could be utilized. Luckily where we are, 80% of summer means it cools down at night. We reside in Sierra County

Thanks for any recommendations- Room we want to filter out the air is about 7 hundred square feet.

Cost?

Are you asking if a ductless wall unit would be sufficient to cool a 700 sqft room or looking for make and model recommendations?

They work good, even some new developments have started using them.

Very popular in many other parts of the world. They are gaining popularity here in the US, primarily on new construction higher-end homes, condos, and apartments.

The main disadvantages are that they are expensive and somewhat of a pain to install... easier than a central A/C system, but more difficult than a window or portable system. If cost or installation difficulty are of no concern to you, then these systems are superior to central A/C systems in many ways.

I have had a mini- split for 5 years. It is quiet, efficient and cools the area very well. It does not filter the air. It has a built in filter to protect the internal unit, but it barely does that. Most Home Depots have one on exhibit, check out the filter to see what I am talking about.

Make sure you hear the draining pump to see if it is quiet enough. I had 6 units and they were super noisy when they kicked in.

At the other house we had a Mitsubishi minisplit to cool the upstairs bedroom/sitting room (the house had radiant floors hence no ducting or furnace). It was probably 450 sf. Worked just fine, but it was probably $4,000 for the unit + installation. It was whisper quiet, we could barely hear it while it was on.

They've come down a bit in price since then, but they are still pretty spendy. It won't filter the air, but it will just recirculate the air. You probably want one or two stand-alone HEPA filters as well.
