Considering Sacramento's past reputation with creating roadblocks for high-rises until the economy crashes or its just not feasible anymore because of a pandemic or whatever it may be..........it will be a "miracle" if 400+ feet of a high-rise actually gets built on Lot X.

It's kinda of weird (and exciting) how many new higher-end hotels are getting built not just downtown but near the airport.

It's too bad the airport folks cancelled the original plan for a hotel on top of Terminal B, clearly, it would have been well used and profitable. I regularly here of folks who drive from Redding/Chico/Stockton/Modesto/Napa and stay at a hotel near SMF for a flight the next day.

The only "roadblocks" to downtown high-rises was inability of the developer to come up with enough money to fund construction, and then the second largest economic disruption in American history. On the contrary, the pandemic doesn't seem to be discouraging construction--quite the opposite, in fact.

You know it is more than developers "inability", poor excuse, there are obstructionists who do their best to get in the way of projects if it is not done the way they like it, even if its not their time, money, energy that is at risk.....these obstructionist literally have nothing to lose...so why not interfere and obstruct just because they can.

Except there wasn't anyone deliberately trying to obstruct the projects you're talking about (Capitol Towers, Aura, Epic, Metropolitan, Cathedral Square) in any meaningful way, they all failed without any help at all.

They were plenty of folks opposed to most of those projects.

25. New County Courthouse at Railyards - Update

They are actually building the courthouse now. You can see two of the inner large elevator shafts going up, 1/4 to 1/3 topped out.

But none of them actually did anything to stop the project other than not liking it and maybe saying so on social media, they were all approved and not subject to any delays by people opposing them. Unless you think that individuals not liking a project cause psychic disturbances or Thetans or something that cause a project to fail, it's pretty hard to demonstrate that a couple people not liking a project had any effect on it at all, especially compared to a once-in-a-lifetime economic disruption, or just cases of too much ambition and not enough competence by developers whose reach exceeded their grasp.
