Sacramento is good, trust me. I lived in Stockton for years and I got so sick of next to nothing to do and the same ghetto thugs, so I moved to Sacramento and it was pretty nice. Maybe I would settle for anything besides Stockton, but Sacramento had quite a bit to do and to me is a good place.

I left Sacramento at 18 because (I thought) it had nothing to offer me, so I moved to the Bay Area and after 20 years and some serious thought and exploring of different places. We moved back (to Folsom) the Bay Area was just getting out of control, home prices to high, schools were bad (there is a correlation between the two), gangs starting to take over, and the pace of life was just getting out of control.

I love every moment here, and there are no worse places here than there were in the Bay Area there are entire cities that you would stay away from.

I agree with the OP. Being 26 and living in Sacramento for 20 years, those exact words is how i've felt. Downtown is ok, but hear nothing but crime problems in downtown. Most of the kids from my high school, the successful ones, moved to LA or out of California. They avoided the bay area.
