hello all i currently live out here in iowa in the good ol midwest. I'm trying to plan a trip out to california to take a Trip up the PCH from sacramento all the way through Washington. Reason why i've chosen sacramento as my starting point is that i have family in southern california and have already seen much of the PCH around there.
Anyways I was wondering if anybody knew of some good places to stop along the way to take pictures at or visit? I'm also using this trip as a way to look at places i might wanna move to once i'm done with school.

By PCH I assume you mean Pacific Coast Highway. If this is accurate, you will need to head towards San Francisco to get on the highway, it is far away from here.

I like Mendocino and Ft Bragg in the area north of San Francisco. There is a really underrated area just north of Rockport where the Pacific Coast Highway turns in towards Hwy 101, a rather incredible 20 mile ride through a dense forest on the ridge of a mountain chain. It is exceptionally beautiful, and a rather challenging short ride with a lot of switchback driving.

A bit farther north, I would recommend you take the exit off of Hwy 101 at Humboldt Redwoods State Park, Rt 211 going towards the west. This is another remarkable and challenging road that will give you some great mountain and coastal vistas, though a bit isolated (gas up first!). On the return trip on the northern side of Rt 211, stop for an hour or so in Ferndale, a very quaint and interesting small town.

North of there, Eureka isn't a bad place to stop and look around, especially the old town section near the Carson Mansion.

Yes, it is a much more logical starting point.
