We live in a semi-custom house in Elk Grove and it recently crossed my mind that I don't believe I'm covered for enough insurance (worst case scenario). I want to make sure that the insurance is high enough to rebuild our house to its current condition with wood floors, custom cabinetry, etc. How much per square inch would you estimate we should be covered for?

Well, it would be per sq foot.
I would insure for the neighborhood average plus any valuables.
If you are considering worse case scenario you might want to consider adding flood and earthquake.

I am told the figure is north of $300 / square foot.

RS Means publishes that type of data. You should be able to find it at the CSUS library or buy it directly from RS Means here.

But it might just be easier to talk to your insurance company.
