Think of the Sacramento Valley as a big bathtub, and the air as the water in it--where does the ring of scum around a bathtub settle? On the bottom of the tub or around the rim?

We're having some very weird weather this year--it is unseasonably hot and dry, normally this stuff would be washed away by rain and wind.

Funny! Sacto air is pretty grim these days, no rain or air movement to blow the crud away.
January has been a total "no burn" month for woodstoves..ikk.

Prior to the last blast of wind that blew out the pollution, I had been watching the airnow.gov site closely due to my spouse's breathing problems.

Pretty shocking -- Air in California was the worst in the entire nation for maybe a month or so. Particularly bad in Bakersfield and central valley where it hit the red zone and stayed there for a while. We in Sacramento were in the orange zone during much of this period.

Not good. My spouse's breathing worsened considerably during this time.

We are moving out of the area because of the air quality (or lack thereof).

More restrictions on polluting industries would probably be tough to get now, due to prevailing political winds (so to speak) against anything that might hurt any busiensses, even if it hurts health (e.g., healthcare costs due to pollution are NOT something you are likely to hear mentioned at tonight's debate in South Carolina).
