Wow...just...wow.

We're also looking to buy a house.

I cannot imagine writing a check for a place sign unseen.

Next time, since I'll have nothing to lose, I'll politely go knock on the door and ask the current tenants if they would mind if we looked around. The worst they can say is "no" and I might even get an opportunity to learn about the property management company.

It was a really nice house and the price couldn't be beat. Did your place work out?

UPDATED, Feb. 24, 1:28 p.m.: The ravenous appetite for New York City new development product has a growing number of wealthy buyers scooping up luxury homes sight unseen.
Since Sept. 1, a whopping 45 percent of contracts signed on units above $4 million were made off of floorplans, according to Olshan Realty’s latest luxury market report. “It’s the highest I’ve seen,” the firm’s founder Donna Olshan told The Real Deal.

In Manhattan very common to buy or rent sight unseen. I only rented a small studio apt for two years, folks are buying 4 million dollar places

My place in the city was great, a little smaller and dated than I expected.

May I ask why you have decided not to buy? I just purchased my first house. Up until this point I had been renting. One, two bedroom apartments, rooms etc. I was renting a room from some friends here in Salem until they decided to start a family. I looked into renting a house here in Salem and quickly discovered that the prices were so close to an actual mortgage that it just made more sense personally to turn renting into ownership.

Funny you should say that, we just started doing the math ourselves and have decided to stay in our little drafty and quite affordable rental house and pay the 300+ electric bill while we look for a house.

Took the step of pre-approval with our local credit union.

Now, we look and read up.

What part of Salem? I'm really only interested in West Salem and South Salem. North Salem is really affordable but, meh. Crime and other things deter us.

So, yeah...renting is becoming less of an option. It's cheaper to buy at this point. Great calculators online that prove it
