Hi all,

Some friends and I are trying to decide where the best place for us to have a college reunion trip would be in early May. We have narrowed it down to two houses that can accomodate our 12+ person group, one in Park City and one in Monticello. A large majority of the group are active cyclists, mountain bikers, skiers, and hikers and the benefits of being in Monticello would be the proximity to Moab and several National Parks with the downside being we would be farther from the airport. That being said, can anyone offer insight on what trail and weather conditions might be in Park City this year or offer up any suggestions on fun things to do for a bunch of peole in their mid-20s-early 30s? Thanks!

Park City, being at a higher altitude than Salt Lake City, is generally on the cool side in May. The whole area has been much warmer than usual this year, though, so Park City would probably be really nice at that time of the year. I would seriously choose Monticello, though (just for its proximity to Moab). The National Parks in May are wonderful. You really shouldn't miss them.

Altitude can take a few days to acclimate to, so Moab is safer. If you don’t drink 2x the usual water, you get bad headaches. Also short of breath.

If skiing is a part of your plan, don't expect to be doing it in PC in May.

That time of year, the southern Utah desert is perfect. Not too hot but usually keeps from getting too cold at night. I'd pick Moab over Park City in May - especially for the activities you mentioned. Now if you were going to want to do some fly fishing, that's another story, because the Provo and the Weber are usually pretty good in May.
