Currently residing in Salt Lake. I notice since I've been here going on 2 weeks now, it's been raining a lot & quite chilly.
Does it normally rain this much in Salt Lake City?

April and May tend to be the wetter parts of the year in SLC. But so far for May salt lake has received over 3 inches of rain. Normal precipitation this far into May is usually less than half at around 1.2 inches. So this has been an abnormally and much needed wet spring.

I consider this a HUGE blessing. According to the weather service we are approaching a point where it would be possible to have made up for the drought conditions predicted. If this rain could only keep up for a few more weeks we'd be out of the woods. It is wonderful. I haven't had to turn on my water for my lawn YET! And it is super thick lush green in places it hasn't been for several years. I'm loving it. No it's NOT normal so to speak, but I'll take it big time right now. Usually it's bone dry mid June sometimes even through August, so I'll take it while we can. Even the air quality is awesome (which is rare).

I checked out the cams on top of Snowbird during the rain. The lenses were coated with snow - GOOD stuff.

Nope. This is an unusually wet May. Temperatures haven't been below normal, actually, but when it's cloudy and rainy, the air does seem colder than it would otherwise.

You guys getting it too, any flooding? We're on flash-flood alert again today. Have had 6+ inches along the Front Range in the last 8 days with snow above 9000. I think we're going on the 4th week of rain each day, really getting tired of it. Also have the burn scar from the fires that worry me each time I leave my house. Is this going to be the day my house floods? 3 years ago next month it was 101 degrees and my neighborhood was on fire. I'd just like a NORMAL Spring this year!

What an amazing stretch we've had... The winter was so warm from Jan-April we had like 1 storm and a ton of days in the 50/60s. We hit May and get hammered with rain and temps drop below or at Jan/Feb levels.

Not so much in SLC, which tends to be quite a bit dryer than areas just a few miles north in the spring, but here in Ogden (northern end of the metropolitan Wasatch Front), yes. We've had some flooding in Weber County, especially out west closer to the lake, where thankfully it's mostly farmland. I also happened to be running in the Ogden Marathon this last Saturday, and it just happened to coincide with the wettest day in record in this area within several years (2 to 2.5 inches in 24 hours, with isolated reports of up to 3.5 in some mountain valleys). Needless to say, it was quite the experience. There have been avalanche watches, an increased risk for landslides, and some minor stream and river flooding reports. As long as no one gets hurt, I'm totally fine with it - although as others have said, this is almost as abnormal as this warm and dry winter we've had. If it keeps going like this for the rest of the month, I'd say this is perhaps a once-in-20-years type of May.

I can remember years back (the '70s I believe) when the GSL flooded west of SLC, we'd just moved back to CO. The governor remarked "what a way to run a desert!" We may get a break over the next couple of days, hope you folks do as well. Stay safe!

It's a bit weird to get so much rain but personally, I'm loving it! If you aren't, don't worry... another month or so and it will be bone dry and 100 degrees every day.
