I think the same would be, that Europeans do not know what is really happening in the USA ...
It has long been my observation that the reverse is far more often the case. The Euros are, by nature and history, internationalists. The vast majority of Americans.... not so much.

Incidentally, the OP was my wife. We have had the digital NYT subscription for years. But, as Katz points out, there's no substitute for the real, hold-in-your-hands Sunday times. :-)

That may well be ...

I still have many family members come to the USA on vacation and very often, they are surprised about things that happen here.

I can not compare large groups of people ...
