Given current trends, it's surprising that the city government in San Antonio has decided NOT to ban something.

Roosters Live to Crow Another Day in SA

Quote:
The city of San Antonio has examined its laws regarding the ownership of roosters, and has decided that the current law will stand, at least for now, 1200 WOAI news reports.

Currently up to three 'domestic fowl,' including chickens and roosters, are allowed in residential neighborhoods, but Lisa Norwood of Animal Care Services says that doesn't mean there are no restrictions.
The article goes on to say that Fort Worth recently enacted a ban on roosters, due to noise complaints from residents.

My neighbor has a rooster and a hen....the last ones he had were killed by my husband's dog when they slipped thru a gap in the fence. It kinda sucks cause the rooster crows at all hours of the day and nite, but on the otherhand I have really good neighbors and I dont wanna cause any dramaticals so I just let it go. Hopefully I'll score some eggs outta it.

Roosters are pretty cool. It's fun getting 'em all irritated until they chase you around the coop.... and it doesn't take much, either. Very short trip...

I was doing some outreach near St. Mary's during the summer of 2008 (west side of town) and was chased by a rooster when putting a flier on a door. Being chased by a rooster in the midst of mid July/early August heat will certainly change your mind on how "cool" roosters are. I say have 'em chase city council around for 2-3 minutes when least suspecting it and that'll change their opinion on banning them.

Now, I see the pros of roosters if you're one of those hippie dippy people who do your own egg thing. But still..get chased by rooster and then we can talk.

Just make sure you don't get spurred by a rooster. That is NOT fun. My great uncle had a remedy for roosters with continual bad attitudes. It was called the axe!

I have no problem with having chickens in the city. But one rooster per flock should be enough! We had one pair of banty cochins that were the sweetest chickens I've ever seen.

I went to a ladies house who lived on a couple of acres and just inside the front door was a baseball bat. When I asked her what it was for, she said that everytime she has to go get her mail, she's attacked by their rooster. I kinda laughed, but when I went outside, here comes the rooster full speed at me from about a 100 yards away. Barely made it to my car. And I didn't have a bat

Does 'domestic fowl' include peacocks? Has anyone seen the peacocks in a neighborhood just north of 410 and Babcock? They are always in the streets or in different yards and I don't think they belong to anyone. I think they are pretty but I don't know if they make any noises.

It wasn't roosters that chased me around too many times but rather a certain *MEAN* hissing, biting, scary goose {that always seemed to me as if It-Hailed-From-You-Know-Where} when I was a kid!

We lived at 38th and Old HighWay 90, thereabouts.....

We had I-don't-know-how-many fraidy chickens, ducks, roosters.....and 1 very angry white goose {with what I recall as white iris eyes}.....and they all ran away from me {I was 2-3 then}, save for that one Hissing Biting Sharp-Beaked Spectre.....it was relentless!

It even once earnestly-told me: *"RESISTANCE IS FUTILE. YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED!"*

{just kidding about that last part, ha }
