It's funny every time someone asks a question on this forum they get bashed.. If you can't answer the question just ignore the thread, no need for all the extra stuff.

The may help you get some answers:

"Regarding Technical Occupations (Let them know what Occupation(s): Technical, Trade, etc.) in San Antonio.... Can you please give me an idea of the various positions, years of experience required, and the salary ranges? (That's your key wording)

There is no doubt that someone out there is either in that position or knows someone who is.

*Maybe the OP is a young person scouting out various careers in a Technical Field. Maybe a prospective new San Antonio Resident. No need to fret over the question.

but i did not specify any technical position, they are open to post any technical position and any salary range.. the term "technical position" is not specified on purpose.

I thank SKEET09: for a reliable answer, I guess there was nothing wrong with my question if one person accurately answered.

I'd FIFY but they delete stuff like that here.

It should be
"It's funny every time someone asks an insanely personal question on this forum they get bashed.."

It is a personal question since lots of these SA city daters do get together and know each other. I would not really want to know how much money a friend makes. You might get more answers if you also asked folks to DM you. I know several friends that work in tech positions at USAA that started at 47000. That was with a degree and also a few years ago. Good luck in your efforts. I hope you find what ya need.

Great point!

As was stated earlier, there are plenty of resources available on the Internet that can give you an idea of the median salary for a given technical occupation here in San Antonio. There are many variables in pay and depend upon experience, certifications, the company you work for, any applicable bonus structure at said job, etc.

Having an active Security Clearance background is also a big plus as there are plenty of tech jobs for the government that pay well provided you meet the prerequisites.

Around 45k now, give or take. Been working 2 years, started out here at 36k. Job is primarily requirements/design/testing of systems.

My experiences has been that in general the older people are the more uptight they are about talking about their salary. In my opinion I don't think keeping it a secret benefits anyone (except your employer), if you or the people you're talking to can't deal with the idea that someone makes more than them, even for the same position, that's really childish. It just gives more power to your employer when employees keep that information off the table and won't confer amongst themselves to make sure there's not anything obviously unfair going on. In the same vein, I'd sure like to know if I could make 5-10k more doing the same job somewhere else.

I'd like to add to backliteyes excellent point that I have highlighted in bold print above: this is invaluable advice if you are working for one of the many technical staffing companies that are out there.

One of my current employees once worked for a staffing firm in San Antonio where their fellow contractor once disclosed their hourly wage in a conversation. What transpired was tantamount to mutiny; they called their staffing firm, complained about being paid far below the norm despite having more education and certifications than their coworker. We're talking a $4+ per hour disparity in their wages and the staffing firm was only paying them 28% of what they were charging the client hourly!

Know your value as an employee, discuss wages with coworkers and ensure you're getting fairly compensated. Giving your employer the upper hand in potentially exploiting you is not a good thing, in any job climate.

I guess the point I was tryin' to make (lost among all the "shots") was that what one person considers tech, another doesn't. I suppose I'm considered "tech" - make about $100k/yr with over 30 years experience.

I wasn't joking about the 6 figures post on the 1st page if "tech" means "engineering."
