Greetings all,

We are planning to move to San Antonio and have a couple of questions on living and moving.

We will be working at downtown. Safety and commute distance (within 10 miles one way?) are my priorities. We are looking for a bedroom apartment, rate should be from $600-$850.

Please feel free to recommend, it would be great if you have good experience with any apartment. I also welcome stay-away warnings!

Thank you all very much!

Ryan

If safety is the most important as well as distance then price may be a bit more difficult, but I would highly reccomend Alamo Heights. It's right outside of downtown, close to everything and an established neighborhood. The apartments there can be pricey, but most are nice.

Good Luck......and be sure to read a lot of reviews objectively. Looks can be deceiveing.

10 miles away from downtown can make for a horrendous commute depending where you are coming from, and what time it is that you are commuting.

I'd recommend looking at LIVING downtown and saving yourself some trouble and commute time. Lots of options for both the person who wants a new, apartment-type building or those looking for a more funky, industrial, lofty setting.

Start with these three, contact a downtown specialist like Centro Properties and see what floats your boat:

* HemisView Village
* Blue Star Arts Complex
* The Downtown Alliance LIVE page

ok, this will be a departure and maybe even not exactly on topic.

come down I35 and look for houses for rent outside the 410 loop, down toward von ormy and lytle.

you can sometimes snag a nice place out in the semi-country and san antonio has no real traffic headed south from downtown on I 35 except for a short pile up every day at around 4:30 to about 5:30. i hope i got those times right, im just going on my wifes commute up to brooks army medical center from von ormy. this summer i was working up in the same place, but i was running through about 6 15 am and back about 3:40pm through the downtown area and there was only a couple of slowdowns. uh, by slowdowns i mean you had to drive under 60mph for a quarter mile.

if yer bound and set on an apartment in the city, well and good, good luck and i hope you enjoy it.

but if you think living a little farther out is a good thing, heading south is the way to go.

yes yes yes, people will poo poo the idea, "redneck hicks, poor messkins stealing everything."

we live in an rv park on a hundred acre tract in a motorcoach, so i guess we fit right in with the south-of-town trash. its about 14 miles from downtown.

but seriously, give lytle, summerset, von ormy areas a look.
