up this way there was a horrible virus going around that caused some pretty high fevers in my kids before Christmas. No other symptoms though. One doc thought it might be some strain of hand and foot virus. Took both kids a whole seven days to break the fever. --- was getting readings of 103 - 104 and 105. Pretty scary stuff and meds did little to bring the fever down.

Did any of you get letters from the school saying they have to, by law, report you if your child misses 5 consecutive days??

No truancy letter from the school yet. But this is the 7 year old's 5th day today due to all the holidays - he went home after 10a on the 13th, which I think means he was counted as present that day. Making today his 5th day (Boerne had a 4 day weekend, Fri the 14th and MLK Monday). But we had the doc fax a note on the 21st, and I've spoken with/emailed the teacher every day. Will be interesting to see what kind of form letters they are required to send. Never have my kids missed this much school.

Just an update. Started noticing blood in my phlegm yesterday and today. I figured it was time to go to a doc So i called him up (spoke to a nurse) and he wasn't too concerned and said that he would just prescribe an antibiotic as it's quite common to have blood in thick yellowish/green/rusty-looking mucus as it's a sign of a bacterial infection.

I hope he's right, cuz once you start coughing up blood, yea, **** gets real.

I feel fine right now as long as I don't move around, lol.

For health purposes they do have to report after so many days to track any outbreaks. "Truant" type letters should not go out until after 10 days.

I have no idea what's going on with me...

Monday - Lower back pain in the morning, Fever of 102 by 3PM

Tuesday - Feel ok in the morning, but Fever by afternoon again, headache, aches (figure it's the Flu at this point)

Wednesday - Fever all day, throwing up blood now. Nausea, etc. Go to the doctor, she tells me it's an Upper Respiratory Infection. Prescribes antibiotics.

Thursday - No fever just nausea, clamminess (lots of sweats), full on chest congestion.

Friday - Extreme nausea, sweating, and lots of chest congestion.

I got this on 2/16. Horrible. Started with a sore throat that felt like I was on fire. Then had a fever, chills/sweaty. Slept all day and now am all congested like crazy. Lots of Nyquill and Mucinex has helped me.

Yes, the sore throat does feel like it's on fire. Then when you cough, it burns in your chest. Mucinex has done very little to break things up.....the antibiotics have finally started to help me cough up some of the gunk in my lungs. I'm scared to death I am going to end up with pneumonia. My boss did. My illness is going pretty much the same route his did. If I am not better by Monday, I'll go back to my dr. and get something different. Nyquil is great at night......just to get a little sleep.
