TV reporter arrested - San Antonio Express-News

Quote:
A local television reporter who covers crime news was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated early Friday, police said.

Angel Covarrubias, 29, has been a reporter with WOAI, the local NBC affiliate, since March 2010, joining the local staff after stints in the Rio Grande Valley, where he was an anchor, and at stations in Corpus Christi and Laredo.

I remember when Erik Barajas of KSAT 12 was arrested for DWI back in 2004. He moved on and is working (in a larger market) in Houston now so it didn't ruin his career.

It's up to Angel to make amends and get it together; I doubt he'll be employed at WOAI much longer.

He's not the first reporter for something bad to happen to. I don't remember the circumstances, but didn't something happen to Gina Galaviz at KSAT? She's doing PR for Smashburger and some other good stuff now. Didn't affect her.

We often times forget that reporters are real people too and will bounce back..eventually.

Galaviz was terminated from KSAT after her arrest on assault charges stemming from a domestic altercation. Galaviz also made news a couple of years before that, in yet another domestic dispute involving a former San Antonio City Councilman.

Her KSAT employment survived the first incident, but not the second.

Rick Sanchez formerly of CNN, was drunk, hit a guy with his car, paralyzed him and the guy later died. Wasn't until he started making inappropriate comments that he actually lost a job.

I did not know that about sanchez, thanks. I never liked the guy and my opinion of him now is even lower than before.
WOAI also lost that guy last year for the same thing. Can't remember his name, but he went with at least a little honor, unlike that carlos guerra idiot at the EN. It's no secret that I despise drunks, but am much more forgiving when they at least do something right about it. I'm hoping this fool will too, but definitely not holding my breath...

Joe Reinagel of KENS had a drinking-related arrest a couple of years ago. I can't remember if it was a DWI.

He kept his job and now posts a lot of religious messages on his Twitter feed.

IIRC, Reinagel was arrested for Public Intoxication.

Seems he showed up at a hospital where his wife was being treated, and was in a belligerent state over the treatment his wife was receiving. Police tried to intercede and calm him down, but Reinagel became verbally abusive with officers, and they noticed his eyes were bloodshot, and his breath smelled of alcohol.

I didn't see it, but I heard Reinagel issued an on-air apology to his veiwers for his behavior.
