Huh? You can get early warning BEFORE there is a problem, also like others suggested - most of us can get email on the phone

I got the text and a voicemail. I thought I may have forgotten to pay my bill or something. I wonder how much of their budget this cost?

It was weird. I didn't like it.

This past winter, when some customers were to be affected by rolling blackouts, the local media got the word out, but I'm not aware of specific customers being notified of an impending outage.

So, I figure, most people just cranked up the thermostat to get the house as warm as possible, in case they lost power. Lots of people ended up not being affected, myself included. Notifying customers actually being affected in advance gives them the opportunity to make preparations, without unneeded measures having to be undertaken by those not being affected.

The alert's not meant to tell you that your power is out or even why it is out. It's meant to warn you that it will be out at some point in the near future.

Since the grid in San Antonio is broken up into something like 30 segments, CPS can anticipate and warn with some precision when they'll be taking your segment of the grid offline during a rolling blackout.
