The oakwell farms one, about 5 minutes away. Area is very safe , easy access to the airport, loop 410 and shopping.

I've lived near Oakwell Farms for around 15 years. It's a very nice area and the Austin Hwy business area was just revitalized. I shop there all the time. You have almost everything you need nearby and you're close to three major highways. I used to work near La Cantera and drove through the area frequently. It's nice and is close to a lot of shopping, but I find driving through the IH-10/1604 area to be dreadful.

Oakwell Farms is your best bet. Labor St. is in the middle of downtown. Not a bad area except no stores. It also may be a drudge to get to Ft. Sam. La Contera is far out of the city and congested all the time. Not a fun time traveling to work.

Refugio Place is downtown, and is a recently built new development. There are some of the best restaurants in town nearby, and easy access to the highway. To each his own, but I wouldn't really want to live by La Cantera, even if it is considered a "nice" area. One man's "nice" is another's traffic-filled suburban wasteland.

Do you know where on Ft Sam you will be? If you are on the North side of the Post, Harry Wurzbach is closer. If you are BAMC, downtown might be easier.

All, I really appreciate the info. Well, I'm not having any luck with a rental but the agent suggested two more properties.

Sedona Ranch
17655 Henderson Pass
San Antonio, Texas

Estate Of Northwood Apartments
17635 Henderson Pass
San Antonio, Texas

Oh, and if anyone has recommendations of kid day camps that would be helpfull too. Currently all the camp space at Ft Sam is full and I'm on a wait list. There is also a wait list at the Boys & Girls Club on Peacock

@iliveinsa: I will be at METC

Anything on Henderson Pass will be a pain to get to. You'll be fighting the worst of 35 and 281/1604 traffic if you drive the way I am thinking. Try to stay in the areas that were recommended, near downtown or the Alamo Heights-ish areas if you want to have a normal commute.

You agent is awful if they are suggesting those properties. You don't really want to be outside loop 410. What happened with oakwell farms? There are multiple complexes there.
