No and that price range will get you a one or two bedroom on the west side at best.

If you do that, you better carry a decent weapon. And plan to use it, because you will eventually need to. No offense, just the truth.

West side isn't as bad as some make it out to be but it is not like the far NW side for sure. The need for a gun is one's opinion and choice. No one "needs" a gun here, this isn't a war zone.

Sometimes I have to wonder just how much some of these people get out before they start downplaying inner loop, south side or west side. Get out of your little bubble and explore some more before you make such blanket statements about one area of San Antonio.

The west side is just as bad (if not worse) as the east side and I wouldn't walk around either one at night. In fact, 78207 was the most violent zip code in 2009. There is a reason why the HEB location at Las Palmas is one of the very few locations requiring an armed guard. Since you omitted the east side in your post, I'm assuming that you're implying that you do need a gun to walk in that area.

SA is NOT to be considered walkable unless you want to seriously restrict your little section of the world....far too urban to be considered "walkable". Bus passable if you decide to use mass tran maybe....but a PITA as far as I am concerned. It takes me almost 1 hour to get to moms from my house in my private car, and we both live in the same city....

To live in Texas, you need a car, not just SA. And SA is day and night compared to Minneapolis. The other big cities in Texas (Austin, Dallas, Houston) would be closer to Minneapolis. Both Dallas and Houston have a great public transportation system with light rails and buses.

Be prepared for a culture shock if you move to SA.

You really need a car. Even an old clunker, if you're just interested in getting around to the store, etc. The buses do not run that often, and the heat is unbelievable at times. And, of course, you'll be fending off loose dogs if walk more than one block.
