No problem with it whatsoever. Students belong in class. If the system can detect automatically that they're not where they're supposed to be and determine where they went instead, that's less time that teachers and administrators have to take from their work day to do that.

I remember the earlier thread.

This is mostly about the school wanting to get paid for every student being there, they don't want to miss someone when they take attendence because they're in the nurse's office or somewhere else on campus.

I'm fine with them tracking kids on the campus, as long as it's only on school property. But then again, my kids don't go to either of the schools testing the program, and by next year, hopefully neither of them will be going to a NISD school anymore, so it's not going to affect us much.

My concern is what next?-----Tracking the student on the way home? Insuring a sufficient amount of time is devoted to studies? Who was where when the school was tagged?

Let's make it simpler, too many forget to bring their devices to school so along with inoculations , the government implants it into to the arm to make life less complicated.

WHERE DOES THE INTRUSION STOP? I find once it starts, it NEVER returns to where it started.

This is not to say that as a parent , I can know where my child is. That responsibility STILL fall on my shoulders and is not a state function.

I completely agree with your last line. At some point, people need to be responsible for their children and make sure that when they get dropped off at school, they actually stay there until it's time to go home. The problem is that until lazy people decide to get off their (insert your choice of word here) and actually do their jobs as parents, things like this will be considered as an option.

Absolutely right! But, because someone else fails as a parent, my child is not available for some social experiment.

Would it be too much of a stretch to look at the RFID cards as a fancy way of taking "roll"? If you tilt the issue on its side and squint your eyes just so, it's possible. Teachers still take roll at the beginning of each class, right? So, if we substitute these cards (which only work on school grounds) for a real-time roll call, what's the big deal?

I'm going to assume that, if a card is compromised (cloning, for example), the data captured during transmission to the RFID receiver will be something like a student ID and maybe first/last name (although just the ID is needed). If that is the case, I fail to see where the invasion of student privacy is coming into play. Student ID and first/last name is not exactly a secret to school staff and most students.

Just a thought...

What intrusion? The ID card has a chip that transmits to receivers within a few feet of it. If there are no receivers, there is no tracking. No one is suggesting that there should be receivers anywhere besides school property.

It's like wearing a decal that displays your name that is only visible when you're on school property. Any receiver authorized by the school, within a few feet of you can read it. Someone at the Valero station next door to the school or the nearest Target store or the nearest strip club can't read it, because they don't have a receiver. No one is going to be able to track your kid with their school ID at any of those places, because they won't have a receiver.

How about this: Why don't they just give these IDs to kids who are habitually absent? Students who have perfect attendance and have never been in any sort of trouble should be allowed to opt out. If the student with the RFID card keeps skipping, expel them. If they can't take the time to show up to school, they probably aren't even likely to show up regularly for a job.

It's a step closer to a police state, and socialist society! This site is full of "progressives" so it's pretty much useless to explain what these chips really can do. I work high up in the district and the way things are going I have really given it a strong thought about stepping down! All I can say is stand up fight! Dont let these people track your kids in any form they are not animals! They feed you this spill about how it's to help the kids and safety...BS! It's all about the money! More kids more cash! Simple as that! The word here is conform people, don't be so easily fooled into letting your rights being infringed on for "safety"
