Does anyone know of a good Deli, where you can get a good corned beef sandwich. Please don't tell me of any place that would dare put mayonaise, lettuce or tomato in their sandwich, that's not what I'm looking for. Keep it simple lean corn beef, good rye bread and some mustard, if there's a good potato salad to go along even better. Thanks for you help

Giovanni's Restaurant
Brazos and Guadelupe Sts. #210-212-6626. Call first. He closes becasue he does caterings and can't keep regular hours during the week. Usually open at lunch time, dinner is always a call first. He's a New Yorker and gets his food from New York. He knows his stuff. It's primarily an Italina Restaurant.

He's very nice--I called because we were looking for some Italian food for my husband's birthday--anyway, he suggested that we try it on a different night because he was expecting a crowd from the theater's opening night. Apparently it's pretty small in there. But he promised a complimentary order of canneloni (I think--it's been a while since we talked--in fact, he took my cell phone number so he could call and let me know a good night to visit--and I've since changed my cell number!) I told him about this website and how people were raving about his food, and he was pretty happy to hear that. So even if his corned beef is no good, at least he's a pretty cool guy! I imagine it will be delicious, though--he's got a nice, thick NY accent!

Giovanni's sound like good grub.
I've found some decent corned beef over at Schilo's on Commerce.

Try Katz Deli in Austin...it is owned and operated by the original Katz Deli folks!

Oh, yes, "Sheee-lo's." Not "Shy-lo's" like I've always said it!

Please do come back with a review as I'm also interested in this.. I'm seriously interested in a good hot pastrami sandwich even more.. and not the microwaved thing either, steamed the way it should be..
and unfortunately I already know that asking for that on a fresh, hot bagel is asking for too much..

According to the map, that's about 8 miles and 15 minutes from my work. That's do-able. I think I'll give it a try next week sometime. Is there a long wait time at lunch?
