Is Beacon Hill safe? (neighborhoods, income, living)

I'm considering moving to Beacon Hill because of the great location and architecture. Though I like the mixture of income levels and cultures, I've heard of recent robberies. Does anyone have experience living there and know if it's a good, safe community? Other thoughts?

As with most older neighborhoods, it changes street by street. I know many people are moving there and many more who are already well situated in Beacon Hill, who wouldn't think twice about encouraging newcomers to come in. I live right nearby and always feel safe.
