Smile Safe areas/Safe Apartment Complexes

I'm sure this has been asked a million times but..

I'm moving from NYC and have always felt safe there. Maybe because there are always people around. I'm moving to SA soon and would like to live somewhere safe with a low crime rate and safe for a woman to live in. Obviously, all areas of any city have crime but I'm looking for a general idea. It seems like most crime I read about for SA is property crime ie-car theft and robbery.

Are there any areas that stand out as being 'bad' ie. high crime, generally un-safe feeling? What about some great areas?

What are some apartment complexes that you know of that are safe but still in an area not too far away from things? We're young and like to go out to eat and go to bars but still want a quiet, safe apartment.

Again, I understand that 'safe' is a vague term and everyone will have their opinions-I'd love to read them all!

Thanks!

Look in the north central area of San Antonio in the Huebner Oaks/Vance Jackson area.

I would also look for an apartment complex that uses security officers (or off-duty police officers) at night.
