My daughter is turning 11 and has asked to invite four friends for a Benihana style meal at one of the local Japanese-style steak houses. I've never been to any of these restaurants, so I am not sure which ones would be best suited to children, also most of the kids are picky eaters and will probably end up eating plain grilled beef of chicken and rice. Can someone recommend a restaurant for us? There are several in town and I've read the reviews but still can't figure out which one would be best suited to a small party of well-behaved but fairly picky eaters. I guess we are looking for the best show. Tokyo, Kobe, or Osaka? Am I missing any? Thanks!

We've only tried one here in San Antonio and it was awful. We went to Shogun for our son's 9th birthday and the food and "show" sucked this past July. I'd avoid that one

I've been to the one on I10 that used to be Benihanas, Shogun and Tokyo Steak House on San Pedro. None are all that great but Tokyo Steak House, depending on the chef you get, varies from OK to pretty good.

Thank you for your replies. I think we'll go with Tokyo Steak House. As long as they sling a shrimp at one of the kids periodically, we should be OK. The kids aren't discerning eaters. I would just hate to spend that much money and not even get a shrimp toss!

Of the ones I have been to Shogun has the best food. It's the only one we go back to about 2 times a year. The only problem is they always seem short staffed and the good "show" cooks left. It doesn't bother us much since we have seen the show multiple times and go for the food now. They do toss food at willing participants.

Osaka would be an excellent choice, too. They are located at 1604 and Bandera. As a bonus, they have tasty sushi as well.

I have never gone to see a "show" but for the best Japanese food in SA please do yourself a favor and visit Fujiya (Japanese Garden Restaurant). Also try Goro's, or Godai.

What about Niko's, for authentic, "no show" food?
