Was biking the Salado greenway and was curious about what appeared to be streets on eastern bank of the creek at MLK park. When I looked at the area on Google maps https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl&authuser=0 what is obviously a stadium appears on the wide view but disappears as you zoom in the image. Guessing this was an SAISD facility at some point that was later demolished.

Each view level is a different picture. The zoomed in level is an older picture before the stadium was built.

That's the Wheatley Heights sports complex. It was built within the last two years. The highest zoom (birds eye) is of the area prior to it being constructed.

Thanks for clarifying! Made sense when I did a similar zoom on the mission reach trail.

Love the way they finally connected the Salado Creek Trail so one can go from Southside Lions to MLK in one stretch

Will be nice when you can finally see the trail on Google Maps and to see exactly where the new bridge is at.

The new bridge means lots.

When you zoom down, by default, it switches to the 45 degree view if there is one available. When it does that, hover over the "Map" block at the top right and then uncheck the 45° option to continue zooming in from the straight overhead view.

Also, the link you provided does not go to the location you were discussing. To get that, click the little chain link icon in the left pane to produce a link specific to the location you're viewing. This is the one for the stadium:

We're recreational bikers and found it was a very easy one hour ride from Jack White trailhead to SS Lions park, minimal elevation changes. The bridge near J-Street park means no more detouring through the neighborhood to rejoin the trail. From the map http://www.sanantonio.gov/parksandre...ap03212013.pdf it looks like they're planning to hook up the Jack White trailhead with the Tobin extension that currently ends at Rittiman. Thought that would NEVER happen since it involves going through Ft Sam.

That would be the greatest. I remember when we used to be able to drive through Ft. Sam, all the time, and even stop off to eat once or twice inside the base, nothing spectacular. Still remember getting lost in the officer's quarters when we went to drive around to look at the fancy houses and also remember when they closed the gates for the first time.

As for the trails we park at Oakwell Trailhead and go all the way to McCallister Park past the airport, then swing back down past Victoria's Black Swan Inn to where the trail ends by Rittiman.

If they connected the whole of the Salado Creek Greenway from Southside Lions to McCallister Park it would truly be awesome and who knows? It could very well happen in our lifetimes. Recreational bikers such as ourselves would enjoy that. Pack a lunch and make a day of it.

Howard Peak was on The Green Connection (Public Access Television) just last month and said the goal is to connect all of the hike and bike linear trails to make a gigantic loop. Awesome goal!!!
