Hi Albert,

Just had a bowl with the "homemade" flour tortillas which I also
learned (courtesy of the folks here on the forum).
As per instructions, especially the timing of the salt & when to apply.
They came out pretty good tasting.

Oh man....Fideo...I recall that as well...I can smell the aroma...
You are building wonderful memories for your grand-daughters that
they will look back & cherish. Keep on the traditions & wishing them
a very Happy Birthday.

by way...

This really really helps ...

Along with home-made tamales...I would like to find a Mexican pot ( olla )

My friends say, "no, don't do it, it's unsafe because of the lead content in it".

I tell them that perhaps the ones made in the US must certainly meet with safety
guidelines for lead & should be safe to use for cooking beans.

Does anyone use or know where I can find the Mexican pots
for cooking pinto beans ?
Also do you add salt before or after & what else & when ?

I can just imagine my abuelita telling me this...

" tienen que ser cocinados en ollas de barro menso"
Can i ask a stupid question?

Can the clay pot cook pinto beans on the stove, with an open flame?

That's not a stupid question !
But my answer might be ...

I remember helping my grandma clean the
beans ( seems like the beans had more little
stones back then )...after rinsing she would
place the Mexican clay pot on the stove to cook
.
The stove was probably gas .
The pot would sit on the grill with the flames
beneath. This is what I consider "open flame"
I believe the pot was "cured" to withstand the
heat.
I hope this answers your questions...but perhaps
Albert may provide a better reply .

You can cook on the stove with it, on low or medium, but you have to start on low.

Thanks. There is so much richness in watching the love of the grandparents being passed down and remembered by the observers.
