Hi everyone! Husband and I are in the market for a bigger home, preferably one with a detached mother in law suite or guest house (garage apartment) etc.

What are the zipcodes/areas we should be looking in?

we currently live in a new construction area (braun/1604) so no guesthouses here unless we build one.

Our budget is less than 300K but more like 250K. Is this doable?

I am planning on mom moving in with us within the next year or two, instead of getting hit with this later when her diabetes becomes unmanageable.

We have a 7 month old so would like a decent school district. Thanks!

Monticello Park, near Woodlawn Lake, has some homes with MIL suites.

Here's a link to a nice article about the area: Where I Live: Monticello Heights | The Rivard Report

Northwood/Oakpark, I know of several houses with poolhouses or "maid's quarters"
That have been converted.

never heard of a MIL suite before...but i just did a Google. What's wrong with having your MIL actually live in the same house as you?? If no space/bedroom, why not buy a bigger house to accommodate her presence?

That's what they're trying to do. To find that space.

Way back when, like the late 90s, my parents thought about moving to Sonterra. We looked at some Highland homes that had good MIL layouts. I couldn't tell you what the name of that subdivision is, but I'm sure someone could identify the area I am thinking of.

I think generally a MIL suite is considered to be somewhat separate from the main house or at lease with a separate entrance and at least kitchenette.

Some people prefer this as it gives both parties some privacy and still leaves the parents with some semblance of independence.
