We recently built a home with Benchmark and I have to admit that they were AWESOME! We had previously built a home with DR Horton and only had the opportunity to give feedback and talk to the foreman twice. With Benchmark we received weekly e-mail updates from the foreman and were able to speak to him whenever we wanted. They provided free time with an interior designer who was honest and had great ideas. The lot sizes they offer are large and wooded. We were also able to adjust the floor plan to meet our needs. We had been looking at a different builder and would have paid $100,000 more for less. They are definitely worth looking into!

Just to put my .02 into an older thread Im in the process of building with DR Horton in Cibolo, and so far, its been Very pleasant. I've been in touch with the Super and met with him twice already, and corresponded with him countless times already via email and we're only at the framing stage! I also have a personal inspector, he is very thorough and very experienced, and yes there are little things here and there. I sent them a list of the stuff we found and they were out there working on them the next morning. Im doing a theater room in our house, so I met with the super for about an hour today just going through and marking where all the electrical is to be run and where to place outlets etc etc..very accomodating and very professional..

I have purchased a home in Cibolo area recently closed in early January 2009. Builder is Pulte Homes. So far no problems other then minor adjustments and touch-ups. Love the area in and around Schertz/Cibolo and being retired Military is very convenient location.

Why yes they did. That buy changed his corporate names faster than his socks to dodge lawsuits from poor unhappy homeowners!

Buy a home built in the 40's or 50's. Solid!

Yes - KB (a California based home builder) bought RAYCO to get into the San Antonio market. It took them about 10 years to get the quality up...too many years of the subcontractors building to RAYCO's low standards. Best advice is to buy in a KB community that was planned and started in the last 3-5 years. Some are still on the low income side - but some are very nice.

Best advice with any home builder is to follow the construction closely and develop a good relationship with the construction manager.

They aren't perfect - they definitely have some communities that are better than others. But - they can and do build very nice homes. It is all in the neighborhood and construction manager.

I once did a walkthrough on a RE house with a friend of mine who wanted to buy one and they were using 3/8" drywall on 2 1/2" studs for a bathroom wall.

I laughed my a$$ off.
