The 630, 632, and 8 stop near Rackspace. According to the VIA website, they all stop at Walzem and Mordred.

The bigger issue might be if someone had to use the ViaTrans service (for the disabled). They can't do pick-ups & drop-offs within the city limits of those municipalities that have opted out of VIA.
This is not going to be a problem for the OP.

I think the OP will need to visit to see how feasible it is to bike to work. I wouldn't feel safe, but the OP could be like Chaka's neighbors and have no fear on heavily populated roads (shoot I get scared when I see a car coming in the opposite direction as I am running at like 7am on a Sunday morning so I wouldn't want to bike to work).

The 1111 apartments on Austin Highway is the only place I would consider living at along Austin Highway. That puts you close to Silo/Nosh, Tongs Thai, Bun N Barrel, The McNay a, Golds Gym, and lots of places along Broadway in Alamo Heights. Austin Highway isn't a very scenic road and is full of strip malls old and new, Mexican restaurants, car/tire shops, a cemetery, and fast food joints.

I would look at the lower Broadway area and Southtown. You might have to drive a car or take public transportation to work, but when it's time to go out in the evenings or weekends you can bike/walk everywhere.

My brother cycled to and from Rackspace for over two years from the Southside. He would grab the Looper (550/551) at the Madla transit center across from SouthPark mall and take it to the Randolph Blvd park and ride and bike down Fourwinds into the Castle. He often worked service tickets and email while on the bus. He often cycled all the way home in the evenings. (*Not* for the screamish) As far as finding a community to live in, I would avoid the area around Rackspace, except for in the city of Windcrest proper. Otherwise, the Alamo Heights are offers plenty of commerce and amenities. Even lower Broadway (that is Broadway from about 10th St North offer plenty of recently constructed living opportunities, although I would generally avoid the Manke park neighborhood (not entirely bad, lots of refurbs, but plenty of problem spots) which is east of Broadway from around Casa Blanca to just south of Hildebrand.

Thank you for all the answers, they really helped me. I went to SA last week and saw the area and chose an apt complex right off of Walzen... it's not pretty as Stone Chase but it's livable. I can bike or even walk to RAX.

One of my co-workers here at RAX is an avid biker and was biking to work regularly but quit doing it because he kept getting flat tires; there are too many nails and sharp objects that accumulate on the side of the street, and San Antonio doesn't sweep its streets often.
He now takes his bike to local parks, and rides the hike-n-bike trails instead.
