Owners of the popular Quarry Farmers & Ranchers Market, which does brisk business every Sunday in the parking lot of the Alamo Quarry Market, were surprised to learn they’ll have to close.
In a letter dated Nov. 11, Patrick Kinney, senior vice president of real estate operations, notified owners David Lent and Heather Hunter that Dec. 7 will be the market’s final day of operations.
The letter cites traffic and parking concerns for the decision.

The area is of the parking lot where it is held is always empty! There is a ton of open parking between Whole Foods and Office Max. I could see suspending it for December if traffic and parking is such a concern for those few hours a week. Bring a Farmers Market back to Blue Star now that South Alamo is open again.

Such a shame! There should be more farmers markets, not less. I don't think they want to let people know the real reason they're kicking out the farmers market.

Too much competition for Whole Foods.

something tells me whole foods had a hand in this...Unless the property is thinking of building something else there? A stand alone building to bring in more profits?

I would question how much negative impact the farmers market, which operates four hours on Sunday mornings, has on Whole Foods, which is open fourteen hours x seven days a week.

I can buy the argument that parking for some of the merchants is impacted; but then, how many of them are open Sunday mornings? Sunday morning isn't exactly a peak time for shopping. Makes me wonder if maybe something else is at play here.

I'm moving back to SA after a 12 year absence. I am not sure where we will live in the area but are there other Farmer's markets you would recommend?

I'd actually argue the Farmers Market does them a favor. You can't get anything and everything at a farmers market and the event serves to attract Whole Foods customers right to their door.
