I've heard Google stores every search you make & now they have pictures of our homes....way too "big brother" for me.
They have a really good track if your logged in. Most people don't realize that if you logged into gmail, and browsing at the same time then they are compiling individual stats. You can see your stats at:

http://www.google.com/history

One useful piece of it is that you can search the websites you've clicked on from a search in the past. This makes it easy to find something again.

If your not logged into one of google's services then the tracking is less specific. More like any typical web site logs.

I'm honestly surprised at some of the "places" they have "googled" and have lived through it!

If I had to pick, however, I prefer Virtual Earth's birdseye view better than the street view....especially with the 360. It covers areas much closer than an aerial and a lot of areas that don't have streets. I've found though that there are a lot of rural areas that are not include....so that's a bummer!
It's not free, is it? In the free category, I prefer Windows Live Maps over Google Maps...at least for aerial shots. It seems as if they had a helicopter flying around. Very good details.

Yes...the google map imaging is free, and that includes their street map views.

The link you posted is the one I like too. If you look down in the left corner, it's "Microsofts Virtual Earth" mapping.
I can't wait until they have the 3D option up and working.

You may have to down load it to your computer first, I am on a Mac and I had to.

Go to Google Earth and it will tell you how to do it, it's real easy.

Or check to see if you already have it in your computer.
