Hi all,

I'm moving to SA by the end of next month. I'm flying in to see where to lease a 1 bedroom apartment for just me; I'd prefer gated communities, a business center, and fitness center. W/D could be in the apartment or on the premises, not like I have a ton of laundry anyway. My job will be downtown, but I don't mind driving like 20 mins to work.

Any areas you think are the safest? That's my number 1 priority. Cost is a close tie for number 1. I don't want to exceed $1000 on rent alone.

On Broadway/The Pearl:

Can Plant
1800 Broadway
Mosaic Lofts
1221 Broadway

Southtown / S. Flores:

St. Benedict's Lofts
Agave Lofts (New)
Southtown Flats (Brand new)
Steel House Lofts
South End Lofts
Judson Lofts
The 1010 S. Flores (newish)
Cevallos Lofts

Both areas are very close to downtown, arguably walking distance (up to 20 min depending on which place exactly).
Although walking form the Pearl or Broadway might not be the most pleasant walk one could imagine, unless of course one uses the Riverwalk, then it would actually be quite nice.
IMHO they are also both pretty safe. I'm pretty sure all of them have gyms but all will have a business center.
Also I am not sure how you would get with a budget of $1000 for monthly rent but a studio should be doable.....or small one bedroom.

Thanks! I have my car so I don't mind driving 20 minutes. I'm going to look outside of downtown as well. From what the Internet says I will look into places like Shavano or Olmos... idk, I'm new to this whole experience.

Sorry that was supposed to say "I'm pretty sure all of them have gyms but NOT all will have a business center."

Shavano is on the outskirts of SA, if I recall right and basically suburbia. If that is ok for you of course then great. There should be a few gated condo communities which a pretty safe. I'm not sure if 20 min to downtown in traffic (rush hour) is possible however.....

We live in this area and love it. Family of four, very happy. Very safe. Excellent community.

Wouldn't live anywhere else in San Antonio.

Ditto.

Nice name hobo .

No way you're making it downtown from Shavano Park in 20 minutes OP. Majority of new apartment complexes will have what you're looking for OP, and most new apartments complexes are being built out along loop 1604 (you won't make it downtown in 20 minutes) or the downtown core. There some nice older apartments and a few new apartment complexes in Alamo Heights.

What other things do you like to do? Be around people your age? Do you like suburbia or do you want to be more urban? You can get must places in San Antonio in 20 minutes without lots of traffic. I think a few more specifics will help. $1000 is a decent budget in San Antonio to get you a 1/1.

I use to live in the condos off of Dezavala and Brandies(across from Clark HS) and was working at the Crown Plaza RW. It usually took me about 20-25 minutes to get to work.

I don't live in Shavano but I don't think it would take more than 25 mins max from there to DT in the morning, but not sure about the afternoon.

...and it's a nice, safe area. I wouldn't live downtown either.
